Assumption Colleges ALANA Network recently held their 17th annual Step and Dance Competition. The competition included 10 Step and Dance teams competing in both a step category and a dance category. Kids in teams from all over Worcester were in attendance going against each other.
The event started with people purchasing tickets and T-shirts while Pierre the mascot took pictures with students, kids and families.
Along with Pierre, the Massachusetts Pirates Football team and their mascot, Arthur, were also in attendance giving out wristbands, game schedules for their upcoming games and also taking pictures with the kids.
The event kicked off with host James and Diel keeping the crowd alive throughout the show. The first team started off with a 4 member boy team who brought out the cheers and excitement that lasted throughout the whole competition.
One by one, each team brought their all out on the dance floor in the hopes of taking both a cash prize and a trophy home with them. By the end of the event the results were in.
The steppers resulted in The Warriors Step Team in third place, Rhythm Nation Steppers in second and The Seven Hills Soldiers in First place. For the past few years InTheZone dance team from the Boys and Girls Club of Worcester, had won first place and were clear competition, so the competition was truly unreal. The Dance component resulted in the 4 member boys group 860 Boys Crew in third place, InTheZone in a close second and the 860 Dance Crew were the ones who took home the number one trophy.
Senior Nisreen Yatim, is the Vice President of the ALANA network. Yatim along with Roxann Wint and Feldano Francois planned and ran the event. This was Yatim’s last event before she graduates in May and before the ALANA network choses new board members.
“After a lot of hard work, the event went really well and i’m really happy with how everything turned out. Everyone seemed to have a great time and the teams that were invited to preform all did amazing! For the next year, I hope that even more teams can compete as this year we had 10 total teams compete and it’s the most we ever had. Also having more of the event to continue to grow in attendance! “

In the end, this years Step and Dance was great success for the ALANA Network and their only hope for next year is for it to get bigger and better!
