On Wednesday, the Assumption College women’s lacrosse team took to the Multi-Sport Stadium in Worcester for a conference battle against the Yellow Jackets of American International College, (A.I.C). While this contest was hard fought, the numbers didn’t lie. The women of Assumption were in control throughout much of the brisk April night, eventually coasting to a 20 -11 victory.
While the Hounds did capture a very essential win Wednesday night, another accomplishment worthy of highlight was a part of the game action as well. Assumption’s own Sarah Reilly became the 6th player in school history to score her 100th goal in her career. On a night where she needed 6 goals coming into the game to reach the milestone, she found the net with :38 seconds left in the first half.
“It means so much to me to accomplish this,” said Reilly. “I could not have accomplished this goal without my teammates, they are the reason I was able to get to where I am.” Reilly went on to say that, “We play our best when we are having fun and not over-thinking, so we just need to keep up the energy and excitement.”
This Hounds team is without a doubt a close-knit group. Seeing the end of the season fast approaching is a reality not everyone is ready for, or willing to face; and you can throw Reilly in both categories.
“Thinking about senior day is a touchy subject for me and my teammates right now. Each and every senior on the team makes contributions on and off the field and have brought us together so well.”
Reilly is obviously a leader on her team, someone who is well respected by her peers. However, that doesn’t mean she isn’t open and receptive to learning from her teammates every day.
“They also have taught me how important it is to make the most out of being a member of this team and to never take it for-granted.’
Looking into the near future for the Hounds, they have 3 of their last 5 games coming on the road. Reilly says the key to finishing the season strong is staying in control.
“I think as long as we keep our composure and play calm and collected, we will be able to finish strong.”
The Hounds are ready to face whatever challenges are upcoming for them. This will be no easy task as they have some focusing to do for their next opponents. But with the grit of this team included, the only people standing in their way, is themselves.
