The night began with free food, games and raffles. The chef served a variety of new menu items including, smoothies, sandwiches, salads and sangria. Nu received positive feedback, and General Manager Brie Swift said, “I love serving the food and seeing the people’s reactions.”

Many of these items supported dietary needs, including vegetarian and vegan options. Nu customers seemed to appreciate the variety and consideration of dietary preferences. Worcester resident, Nicole Callini said, “Nu Kitchen did a very good job showcasing how diverse their food selection is with the samples they provided at the rebrand event. Every sample they brought out catered to different food restrictions people may have.”

I got the chance to sit down with Brie Swift, General Manager of Nu Kitchen, who talked about what inspired the name change. “We wanted to break the mold of a cafe. We wanted people to know we’re here all day.” The transition into Nu Kitchen also meant a chance for the restaurant to share their new mission statement. Found on Nu Kitchen’s website, their new mission statement says:

“NU Kitchen pairs our passion for entertaining with our commitment to a healthy lifestyle. We combine wholesome ingredients, mindful preparation, and attentive service to create an uplifting atmosphere. We seek to inspire our community one person at a time.”

“We’re not just a coffee shop, we have a beautiful kitchen and we serve beautiful food.”

The event was also meant to bring awareness to Nu Kitchen’s alcohol menu. Many customers were unaware the cafe even sold these items. Megan Miller, a senior at Assumption College said, “It was exciting, especially being twenty-one that they were going to expand their alcohol menu and add new meals.”

The event came to a close as a local Worcester band played live music for Nu Kitchen customers.
